Why???

Quite possibly the most used word of toddlers - everywhere.  And the most frustrating one to us moms.

However, in business I get the why question a lot.  "Why do you do what you do?"  "Why did you choose the financial world for your career?"  So, what is my why?  At least in business...  Of course my why includes my family, my financial support of charities and my church.  But, everyone says that.  I'm not knocking them, but sometimes you have to dig a little deeper into what REALLY motivates a person to do what they do.  And support the choices that they've made.

My Why.

Something I don’t share with too many people is that my parents divorced when I was around 6 years old.  Back then, there weren't any dead beat dad laws where a woman could appeal to the judge to get child support.  My dad didn't have any money to share anyway, so it wouldn't have made a difference.  As a small child, I was obviously upset that my dad (my buddy) was moving somewhere else.  Kind of traumatizing to a 6 year old, if you think about it.

What was even more impactful on me (growing up) was the fact that my mom was destitute after the divorce - with two little girls at home.  I would have to go with her to the pawn shops to sell her china, her wedding rings, whatever was of value just for her to buy groceries.  She had dropped out of college to get married, which was pretty common at the time, but it really affected her ability to find good paying work to support us.  I loved my mom, and miss her every day, but dang!  I don't want to end up like she did.

I think (& hope) that I've made better choices in my life, but those experiences definitely influence what I've chosen to do, and why I've chosen to do it.  I'm using those experiences and choices to help YOU - understand your finances and make better money decisions.

I guess you could say that I'm your money superhero.

Have you ever seen me and Wonder Woman in the same room at the same time?  Just sayin'
